BATH HOUSES
This
building called Bath house is located in
Arrasate/Mondragón, Guipuzcoa. It is a result of the industrial revolution and
was built so as to improve peoples hygiene.
It is a pavellion with the shape of a prism and
has three floors.
It’s well known that this place has been used to many
purposes: it was an hospital, medical center, psychiatric center.Between 1873-1875 the Carlist War happened ,and
in that war it became a hospital. After that, bath houses weren’t so
popular, so the boss of the place sold it to other merchants. The merchants
that bought it made it a medical center. It opened again as a psychiatric
center commanded by San Juan de Dios religious order and Hermanas de Sagrado
Corazón.
You can see from the outside that it
has imperial stairs. When you enter you can see a very long corridor. the first floor has a terrace, when the down
floor widens, it has a very extense roof, and so has the second floor. The view
is very nice from there and the people that worked used to have a rest in this
terrace.
Finally, you
must know that this building has been managed by different companies so you can
see a mixture of cultures. In my opinion, it is a very nice place to visit.
